What it means to have a strong mum

Presence, compassion + persistence are the key ingredients of strong mothering. They show up when no one else does. They stand up for those whose voices often get ignored. And they get people through the hardest times.

They are great at never, ever giving up, even when things feel hopeless. They are an example of amazing resilience, and they help people find their own inner strength.

Be sure to give them time to let their guard down, to be still, and to give them the space to rest and heal when they need it.

Here are simple mindful practices that they can incorporate into daily life to be intentional about rest and to build resilience:

  • Walking can be a great way to practise mindfulness by paying attention to the breath, the sensations in the body, and the sights and sounds around. (We’ve got great walking meditations in the app.)
  • Setting aside a few minutes throughout the day to take a mindful break. This doesn’t have to be long or complicated, but being intentional about resting is important.
  • Letting others be strong for them, too. They should know that it’s okay for them to ask for help, to receive care, and to allow others to show their own unique strengths.
