Yield into gravity and release tension around the breath in this short practice.
A meditation practice where we yield the weight of the body up to gravity and up to the support of the chair, the floor or the bed beneath us. Yield is a very beautiful word. It's different from collapsing. It's got a quality of wakefulness and alertness and yet release and surrender. When we're living with pain or other physical difficulties, very often we kind of grip onto the body with awareness.
We hold ourselves away from gravity. We don't allow ourselves to rest our awareness deeply inside the body and to rest deeply into the support that's always there beneath us. Gravity is always holding us close to the earth. So let's just see if we can allow our weight to release into the support of gravity. So we can let go of gripping onto the body.
And of course, gripping onto the mind and the heart as we do this. So stopping whatever you're doing. And seeing if you can allow your weight to rest down into the chair, into the bed. Not perching on top of it, but releasing into it and really receiving the support. Feeling into all the points of contact.
In the buttocks, if we're sitting. The back of the body, if we're lying down. The feet, if we're sitting or standing. And feeling into this quality of yielding, releasing, settling, and resting. All the time, allowing our breathing to be soft.
So you can do this as many times as you want to throughout the day. Using this quality of yielding, receiving the support beneath you as your friend and companion as you live with whatever physical difficulty you're experiencing at the moment. Thank you for your practice. And I wish you all the very best.
