Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to talk about the missing ingredient to living the life you want. So in addition to imagining the life you want, it's important that you practice feeling the life you want. This is really key to prevent self-sabotage once you get in the direction that you're trying to go. Because it's one thing to imagine a great life, it's another thing to be able to hold the resonance of that life in your body.
What I mean by the resonance is that different emotions feel differently for us. Joy, pleasure, they have a certain resonance. Pain has a certain resonance. And if we're not comfortable with holding joy, if we subconsciously push it away, then we're going to, in a sense, sabotage our experience. So we need to learn to hold that in our body.
So here's six steps that you can work with around that. Step one is just very simply imagining something you want, something you're excited about, a life you're excited to live into. Two is to connect to the feeling associated with having this in your life. What does that feel like? Three, observe what it's like to connect to this feeling. Is it comfortable? Scary? A lot of sensation? Is there a desire to sabotage this experience so it can't be taken from you? Four, practice staying present to the sensations, breathing and relaxing into them, softening the tension that is willing to let go and then communicating to your nervous system that you're safe.
Once you're able to stay present with the sensations, explore how you might actually enjoy them. What about this as exciting? Where in your body does this feel pleasurable? Can you let it nourish you rather than condition fear? And six, continue with this until your body feels drawn to the life your mind is excited to create. Now this can take a, the course over like 10 or 15 minutes as a meditation, but it's also something that can be done each day over the course of weeks, especially if you're really trying to recondition a new way of relating to your life. As you go through this process, you may notice mental blocks such as I'm not worthy of feeling this or this good thing is only temporary and good things always get taken from me. Don't worry about trying to change those thoughts at first.
Just keep coming back to your body, relaxing into the sensations and letting yourself enjoy them. This is how you start to retrain your nervous system to hold more of what life can offer you and especially what you're excited about in your mind about what life can offer you. Retraining the body to hold that resonance so it's not subconsciously self-destructing. Thank you for your practice. And we'll do a little bit more of this work in today's meditation.
So let's settle in.

Vidyamala’s tips on catching anger as it’s happening or about to happen are great - clear, practical, and doable.
- Vicoir
The little talks before the meditations are priceless. It's like I've found my peeps. The topics, the quotes, the goals—it all makes so much sense to me, things I want to be thinking and learning about. Most importantly, the meditations are kindness-centered, which I love. It feels like a new way to approach meditation.
- Lauren
Incredible, easy to navigate app. I would highly recommend this app to anyone who wishes to reduce stress and anxiety or simply as an aid to improve overall mental health.
- Kirtus
I love how the app gives me pointers to new things to explore.
- Lydia
So calm and soothing. I love the new bundle with Kelly Boys, she’s brilliant!
- EJ
Better than Headspace. I've had the paid version of both apps, and I must say I enjoy this one better.
