A Question for a Weary Heart

Personalized support for learning how to integrate mindfulness into your life. Delivered fresh everyday by our world renowned experts.

Hi, and welcome to your Daily Mindfulness. Today, I'm going to share a question for you for when your heart's feeling a little weary or worn out. And you know what, from what I'm hearing from our community, from my friends, from social media is that this is exactly what many of us are feeling in the background. Kind of weary. We sure are living in overwhelming times right now, hey.

Political instability, racial injustice, and the pandemic have left many of us kind of feeling in a state of spiritual PTSD. With climate change and technological disruption looming in the background, many of us are really being tested and even pushed to the point of despondency or despair. And we really can't see any end in sight to these challenges. So if you're feeling a little battle weary, friend, know this. You are not alone and there's nothing wrong with you if you're feeling weary or disconnected or overwhelmed, because this is tough.

And these days I think a question that keeps guiding me back to actions of self-care, self-compassion, and awareness, the question that I keep asking myself when I'm down or overwhelmed is a question that I'm going to invite you to ask yourself right now, and really honestly ponder. In the midst of all of this, what do you need? Do you need more rest? Do you need more support from friends? Do you need to start saying yes to something or perhaps no to something? Do you need to talk to a friend or a therapist? Eat a better diet, get more sleep. Like what do you need, honestly, really, to care for yourself in the midst of all of this? I just invite you to take a moment here with eyes closed or eyes open to contemplate that question. And whether a clear answer is coming to you or not, you're really not sure, my invitation is to keep carrying this contemplation, this question. Carry it with you into your day, into the days ahead.

Hold it close. Let it keep reminding you to self-care, to check in with yourself in an honest and loving way. And once, you know your answers, what do you need? If change is needed, I encourage you to take action, giving yourself the support you need to thrive and stay strong day by day. In a world where so many of us are feeling disconnected and depleted, let this question keep reconnecting you with yourself over and over again. We all need to double down on self-care when times get tough.

It helps us gather our strength, soothe our souls, and be more available to help other people. So giving yourself what you need is a gift that will keep giving to everyone else, too. I wish you a wonderful practice with this. And as always, thank you for your practice and your presence here with us. And now let's settle in for today's meditation.
