Acceptance vs. Endorsement

Personalized support for learning how to integrate mindfulness into your life. Delivered fresh everyday by our world renowned experts. Choose meditation duration:

Hi, welcome back to

your Daily Mindfulness.

In today's session, we're

going to talk about acceptance.

It's really important to remember

that accepting your present reality

doesn't mean you endorse it.

Accepting your reality

doesn't mean you endorse it.

This is often where we get

tripped up with acceptance.

We feel like if I accept what is here,

it must mean in some way that I'm

allowing it to be here, or I want it to

be here, or I'm not upset that it's here.

None of that is true.

It may very well be the case that

you don't like what is here and you

don't want for whatever's here to

sustain itself, or you have a moral

stance against what is arising.

Acceptance isn't in conflict with

any of those experiences or emotions.

What acceptance is involves is

acknowledging and softening into

the truth of what is here right now.

You may not like it, but by firmly

standing on this ground of truth,

firmly seeing and recognizing what

is here, you have more clarity

and how to best move forward.

And the important thing about that,

is that sometimes the best way to

move forward is to actually take

action against what is here so that

it doesn't continue in the future.

The key point here is that

acceptance doesn't mean endorsement.

It means meeting the truth of what is here

fully, recognizing that it's here already.

So can we honor that?

Can we relax into it?

And with a more full bodied presence,

allow ourselves to see what is the

best decision for how to respond next.

If we deny what is here, if we

don't let ourselves see what is

here, we have no opportunity to

respond with any true clarity.

So see if you could bring this

into your mindfulness journey.

Acceptance, isn't a

weakness, it's a superpower.

And it's what allows us to respond

appropriately to the present moment

in order to impact the future.

Thank you so much for your practice and

let's settle in for today's meditation.
