Hey, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to talk about those moments where we just feel like we're in survival mode. In the mindfulness journey there can be a lot of joy and ease and peace. And maybe you've experienced this already on your path. There's something about attuning to the present moment, learning about yourself, growing in new ways that can feel inherently rewarding.
And we start tuning into all the different pleasures and joys in life that we were just on auto, automatic pilot to beforehand. However, with the journey of attuning more deeply to our life, stepping out of automatic pilot and really associating into our experience, sometimes we can feel the difficult moments that much more. And sometimes when we're really going through something difficult, it might feel like we're, I can't be present. I can't be mindful. Like I'm just in survival mode.
I don't want to try to do anything. I don't have any more resources I'm depleted. And I just want to speak to that because in those moments, sometimes we can add more pressure to ourselves to try to be really present, to try to hold ourselves together, or I need to be mindful or I need to become. And most of that's just nonsense. It's extra agitation.
And we recognize that, that these are moments that are going to be difficult. We're not going to necessarily be at our best in the sense that we're going to feel a lot of joy. We just trying to get through. So, what I find helpful in these moments is to cut myself some slack, recognize that it's going to be difficult. And I just try and show myself some compassion along the journey, to be my own best companion toward what I'm experiencing.
And you can do this as well. I encourage you to. And you can place one hand on your heart and one hand on your belly, just feel your body breathing, feel your heart beating. And by tuning into that, the goodness that your heart is beating, your body is breathing, you let that be a reminder that there's still more right with you than wrong with you. Recognizing that this too shall pass.
You will get through this. You've gotten through difficult things before, and you come from a long lineage of humans, of ancestors who have gotten through difficult things. It's built into your DNA. So you don't have to try to make it anything more than it is or feel any better than you do. Give yourself space to go through what you're experiencing, trust the process, show yourself compassion along the way and know that this will pass.
And then we get through. And, and the sun is on the other side. The light is on the other side and you'll feel different, but you need to trust that journey. And so give yourself the permission to just be in survival mode and trust the process. Thank you for your practice.
And if you are going through something difficult right now, we're sending you a lot of love here at Mindfulness.com. Let's settle in for today's meditation.

Vidyamala’s tips on catching anger as it’s happening or about to happen are great - clear, practical, and doable.
- Vicoir
The little talks before the meditations are priceless. It's like I've found my peeps. The topics, the quotes, the goals—it all makes so much sense to me, things I want to be thinking and learning about. Most importantly, the meditations are kindness-centered, which I love. It feels like a new way to approach meditation.
- Lauren
Incredible, easy to navigate app. I would highly recommend this app to anyone who wishes to reduce stress and anxiety or simply as an aid to improve overall mental health.
- Kirtus
I love how the app gives me pointers to new things to explore.
- Lydia
So calm and soothing. I love the new bundle with Kelly Boys, she’s brilliant!
- EJ
Better than Headspace. I've had the paid version of both apps, and I must say I enjoy this one better.
