Welcome to your Daily Mindfulness. Today we're going to be exploring a way to declutter your mind and deepen your focus. And we can do this through a really simple and yet powerful practice, the practice of narrowing our attention down to focus on just one thing at a time, the thing that's happening in the present moment. Now, this sounds like a fairly simple thing to do. Just focus on one thing at a time.
But we live in a world today where that kind of simplicity and attentiveness is becoming more and more rare and difficult. In our high speed, high demand world, many of us have never ending to do lists, electronic devices that are constantly beeping at us, trying to demand our attention and really full calendars that give us almost no time and space to stop and catch our breath. And when we're constantly pulled around by all those demands and rushing around trying to get it all done, we often end up feeling scattered, depleted, and stressed. If we want to bring more calm, clarity and happiness into our lives, the best place to start is within, because when the mind is racing cluttered and frantic, we inevitably become scattered and stressed. But when the mind is calm, clear and happy, we feel at home within ourselves through mindfulness.
We practice cultivating these qualities by focusing on just one thing at a time and one moment at a time, and then we let that practice flow out into our lives. Now it's important to note that this focus on one thing at a time doesn't mean that you get things done any slower. On the contrary, research shows we're more productive and we make less mistakes when we stop multitasking and rushing and just do one thing at a time. Now it also shows that we enjoy our doing so much more when we slow down and focus and hey, that matters because life isn't a to-do list. It's meant to be enjoyed.
So in today's meditation, we're going to explore how to declutter your mind and cultivate deeper focus, not just in your meditation, but in daily life too.
