Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to talk about strengths versus weaknesses. A lot of us grew up with the perception that we constantly need to be working on our weaknesses. There are common phrases that we hear such as, uh, you're only as strong as your weakest link. This carries over into our work, our relationships, and overall our perception of ourselves.
And working on your perceived weaknesses is certainly important. I don't think anyone would deny that. We need to make sure that they're not greatly holding us back in relationships, in our work and in our overall wellbeing. And a lot of what we do at Mindfulness.com is helping you hold what, what might be holding you back and work with that. But only focusing on our weaknesses never gives us the opportunity to explore and further cultivate our strengths.
And we all have strengths, even if you think you don't. Instead of just trying to fix your weaknesses, what if you doubled down on what you're naturally good at? How would your life be different? How would you feel and how would it also inform your life path? Research in positive psychology shows that those who spend time identifying and using their strengths have greater wellbeing, less depression, better mental health, and they're more productive. So if you need help identifying what your strengths are, you can Google this phrase VIA character strengths, and you can take a free survey. And this will give you a list of what your top character strengths are out of a total of 24. And you can practice using those.
Or you could check out the book, Strengths Finder 2.0 to further go into the the strengths-based literature. This will help orient you to what is best in you. And hopefully help you put more time and energy there rather than just your weaknesses. And remember, if you only focus on eliminating your weaknesses, you will never develop the unique gifts you were given to offer the world. And we all have unique gifts.
So thank you for your practice and for bringing your gifts into the world. It's needed. Let's settle in for today's meditation.
