Hi, and welcome to your Daily Mindfulness. Today I'm going to talk about how we can overcome feelings of lack and unworthiness, and truly know that we're enough already. So because of the way the human mind is wired, most of us carry around a background sense of inadequacy and insufficiency. This happens because we tend to keep getting caught up in thoughts that suggests that there's always something missing from our lives or something that's not okay yet. The mind is always telling us stories of I'll be happy one day when.
You know, when I find that special person, when I finally achieved that big goal, once I have more money, when I have the kids, when I finally retire, And whatever the version of the story is, the basic story is once this or that happens, then I'll finally be happy. So the mind is always putting your fulfillment off to the future. The mind is always telling us why we cannot be happy and whole right here and now and when the mind operates in this way and we believe it, we buy into it, we can never really be satisfied or happy for very long, because no matter what we ever do, get, have, or achieve, the mind just creates a new goal out in the future. And tells us one more story that something's missing, something's incomplete, something's lacking. So we never really get a chance to be fulfilled.
Now, of course, it's wonderful to have goals and plans. It's wonderful to evolve as a person. But when we base our happiness and self-worth on achieving these future goals, these elusive moving targets in the mind, we end up constantly dissatisfied and feeling incomplete, because once we lose the weight or get the dream home, the mind just creates a new desire on the horizon and we're stuck in the same cycle again. Mindfulness invites us to break that cycle of dissatisfaction by letting go of the thoughts that create that sense of lack and unworthiness. It allows us to let them go and find satisfaction with who we are and how things are right now.
It's an invitation to accept and appreciate life rather than finding fault with it. Now, this doesn't mean we're just going to become lazy and apathetic or lose our edge. On the contrary, we can do everything we need to do more efficiently and effectively when we're happy, vital and motivated by love instead of lack. So it's just a shift that instead of carrying a sense of dissatisfaction with things, we operate from a foundation of being enough already and feeling appreciative of life as it is. So my invitation, is to take some time today to contemplate the stories that your mind tells you that might be causing you to feel dissatisfied, deficient, or unworthy.
Maybe it's a relationship story or an achievement story, a body story, a money story. Whatever the story is, see if you can recognize it as just a story. Simply thoughts in the mind and not the truth. And in that way, let them go and let them be. And then just seeing if you can practice appreciating yourself and your life just as it is.
Letting it all be enough already. So as always, thank you for your practice and your presence here with us. And inviting you now to begin to settle in for today's meditation.
