Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to talk about the relationship between meditation and making money. Now, this is a topic that can sometimes feel a little taboo to talk about. I'm not going to talk about how meditation makes you more effective at your job or inspires you to go off and make a lot of money. Uh, instead, I'm going to talk about more of sometimes the conflict people have around this feeling of I'm doing nothing when I meditate.
I'm just sitting here, I'm not getting anything done. And there are a lot of important things I need to do in the world that might relate to me making more money and being able to support my family or sort of craft a life that I'm interested in. So I want to address that because it's true. You, you may not make money while you're meditating. But when you're done meditating, you'll most likely feel less of an urge to buy the thing that you thought would fill the emptiness in your heart.
And when you really look at it as so many of us, this consumer culture that we're in, where we're conditioned to buy things to feel more whole, to be, feel more full, uh, to reach some sort of lifestyle that's going to give us the happiness that we want. A lot of this has been conditioned into us from a very early age and oper, and often operates at a subconscious level where we see something shiny and new toy or, uh, even, uh, a certain kind of home, some sort of material item, and there's this feeling of, you know, if I had that, then I'll finally feel fulfilled or I won't feel this emptiness. And that's where we really want to catch ourselves because that can be a never ending treadmill. There are many people who have walked that treadmill and are still on that treadmill, trying to accumulate things, build a life around them, especially through material things to fill, uh, this feeling of there being a void. But meditation goes right to the heart of that.
It cultivates a fulfillment right here without anything other than your mind and your body. And the more that we do that, the more we step out of the meditation, come back into the world and realize we don't actually need as much as we thought we needed. The more you feel comfortable and whole in your own being, the less you need to manage, manufacture the world around you for comfort. So even though you might not be making money while you're meditating, you are making money in a different kind of way, in that you won't be spending as much on things that you might not need, things that won't actually fulfill you. So hope this gives you a new way to think about practice, especially in the context of your relative life.
Thank you for your practice and let's settle in for today's meditation.

Vidyamala’s tips on catching anger as it’s happening or about to happen are great - clear, practical, and doable.
- Vicoir
The little talks before the meditations are priceless. It's like I've found my peeps. The topics, the quotes, the goals—it all makes so much sense to me, things I want to be thinking and learning about. Most importantly, the meditations are kindness-centered, which I love. It feels like a new way to approach meditation.
- Lauren
Incredible, easy to navigate app. I would highly recommend this app to anyone who wishes to reduce stress and anxiety or simply as an aid to improve overall mental health.
- Kirtus
I love how the app gives me pointers to new things to explore.
- Lydia
So calm and soothing. I love the new bundle with Kelly Boys, she’s brilliant!
- EJ
Better than Headspace. I've had the paid version of both apps, and I must say I enjoy this one better.
