Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. Today I'd like to talk about how reflecting on the end of our life can be a powerful tool for living a more purposeful life in the present. Most people at the end of life have a unique perspective on what it means to live well. Simply because they can reflect on a lifetime of thoughts, beliefs, relationships, work, behaviors. And with that larger perspective, combined with the sensitivity to the preciousness and time limited nature of life, there's an ability to see things a little more clearly.

I remember reading one article about a nurse who spent years listening to dying patients. And she said, five themes emerged. Here's what most people said on their death bed: One, I wish I had the courage to live true to myself, not the life others expected of me. Two, I wish I hadn't worked so hard. Three, I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings.

Four, I wish I had stayed in touch with friends. And five, I wish I had let myself be happier. Now, this is not necessarily what you will feel at the end of your life. But for me, I've noticed that when I reflect on the end of my life, and I imagine thinking back to how I'm living right now, there are some things I'm proud of and other things I'd change. It's always a meaningful reflection for living more purposefully in the present moment.

So my takeaway question for you to ponder today is if this were the last day of your life, would you be happy with how you lived? And if the answer is no, what can you change today? Thank you for your practice. And we'll talk to you soon in the meditation. Take care.
