Intuitive Guidance

Personalized support for learning how to integrate mindfulness into your life. Delivered fresh everyday by our world renowned experts. Choose meditation duration:

Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, I want to talk about intuitive guidance. So there's a quote by the teacher, Robert Adams, that I really like, and I'd like to read it for you. It says, "There's something within you that knows what to do. Surrender your thoughts, your mind, your ego, to the current that knows the way it will take care of.

It will take better care of you than you can ever imagine." Surrender your thoughts, your mind, your ego to the current that knows the way. This has been a deep fascination of mine over the last years, it's felt like, I guess you could say a missing link in my own personal growth journey where I've done a lot of meditation and cultivated a lot of awareness around my internal experience. But in terms of how to bridge that with making decisions in my life, it felt like there was a gap in that education. What is the inner voice that I'm supposed to listen to? And I've seen a lot of different thoughts, a lot of different emotions. So many of them are coming and going.

And I've also been a bit disillusioned by any one particular thought being the voice of guidance. It's sort of just been, oh, it's just another experience arising in my mind. Curious if you've had that experience as well in your meditation? So I think there, there can be this gap for people when they develop a meditation practice. And then a lot of those usual resources they had, internal resources of like, oh, I follow when my thoughts say to do this, I do that reactively. Once you start questioning, hmm, what am I supposed to be listening to? It can put us in a state of limbo.

And so I'm really curious about what is this current that knows the way. It is still a deep exploration in me, but what I have found for myself is that when I do drop beneath the noise, or when I pay attention to everything going on in my system, the different thoughts, the different emotions, the different felt senses that arise in my body or my gut, there are deeper and deeper layers that feel more and more aligned with my felt sense of who I am and what feels right. There's a sense of this is a yes or this is a no that feels aligned with me. It's not the thoughts that are coming from family culture, media. There's something that feels uniquely mine in its orientation to this experience of yes, no, or even an I don't know.

This is a big topic, but I want to give you one practice you can utilize to start getting in touch with that intuitive guidance. And that is to start getting clearer on what is a yes for you, what is a no for you, and what is an I don't know. Now, I'm not talking about doing that in relationship to future experiences, which is something that we, we do want to develop, but as a way to get in touch with that as it already exists in you. I encourage you to explore experiences in your life that you already know very deeply are a yes. Maybe it's a certain relationship that you know is a yes.

Maybe it's your job that you know is a yes. Maybe it's the love you have for your children that you know is a yes. And bring that into your mind and feel what that yes feels like. How do you know it's a yes? Is it something in your body? Is it something in your mind? Is it a felt experience or an emotion that arises? Then do that same thing with the things that you know are a no. A relationship, a boundary that you put up, something going on in the world that you know you don't stand for? Drop that in your mind.

What does that feel like? What does no feel like? How is it being communicated to you on a deep level? And then look at the things that you actually don't know yet. You're in a state of limbo. It's like, I'm not sure if this is a yes for me. I'm not sure if this is a no. There's some ambiguity there.

Drop that into your mind and into your body and see what does that feel like. What comes up for me in relationship to this? By doing this practice, you start to get a sense of what a yes feels like, or let's say what the experience of a yes is, what the experience of a no is and what the experience of an I don't know is. And the clearer you can get on that, the clearer you can use it in future moments when you're trying to make important decisions. This to me is the beginning of our work around intuitive guidance. So thanks for your practice.

Let's settle in for today's meditation.
