Hi, and welcome to your Daily Mindfulness. Today we're going to talk about letting go of the habit of comparison. So the human mind has a really strong tendency to compare and that often causes us quite a bit of stress and suffering. Now we compare ourselves to other people and we kind of make these assessments about whether we might be better than, or worse than. If we think we're better, we might feel superior.
And if we decide were worse or not as good, we might feel inferior. We might be comparing to something physical, you know, maybe how we look or how strong or fit we are, maybe it's personality traits, possessions, or a particular lifestyle. And then our minds also have this other trick. We often also compare ourselves to how we used to be or how we might want to be in the future. But however, we're doing it, as long as we're stuck in that comparing mind, the swells are stuck in this idea of like better than, or worse than or should be.
And we're stuck in feelings of deficiency and dissatisfaction. So there's always this kind of like tension in the mind of wanting to be someone different than we are. And no matter how much we ever do, get, have ever achieved that feeling won't go away as long as we're still stuck in the comparing mind. So if mindfulness teaches us anything, it's that it's only by letting go of this habit of comparing and judging that we finally get comfortable with who we actually are. And wholeness, contentment and genuine confidence only come from learning to connect with ourselves and accept ourselves as we are now.
And there's no better way to learn that ability then through the practice of meditation, but in daily life too. See if you can start to soften or even let go of this mental habit of comparing yourself and then instead just focus on being yourself, just as you are right here and now. So as always thank you for your practice and for your presence here and just inviting you now to settle in for today's meditation.

Vidyamala’s tips on catching anger as it’s happening or about to happen are great - clear, practical, and doable.
- Vicoir
The little talks before the meditations are priceless. It's like I've found my peeps. The topics, the quotes, the goals—it all makes so much sense to me, things I want to be thinking and learning about. Most importantly, the meditations are kindness-centered, which I love. It feels like a new way to approach meditation.
- Lauren
Incredible, easy to navigate app. I would highly recommend this app to anyone who wishes to reduce stress and anxiety or simply as an aid to improve overall mental health.
- Kirtus
I love how the app gives me pointers to new things to explore.
- Lydia
So calm and soothing. I love the new bundle with Kelly Boys, she’s brilliant!
- EJ
Better than Headspace. I've had the paid version of both apps, and I must say I enjoy this one better.
