Hi, welcome back to Day Three of our Seven Day Sleep Challenge. In today's session, we're going to explore how to lighten the mind. And specifically, we're going to explore this through the lens of gratitude. I've always considered gratitude to be one of the biggest happiness hacks, because a moment of gratitude is a moment of feeling full. You're not contemplating what isn't working, what's not going well, what you don't have.
There's an attunement to, and an appreciation for what you do have in this moment and what you do have in your life. And that naturally lightens the mind. Maybe you can even feel that lightness as I'm talking about the contemplation on gratitude. It's quite different than our brains' usual hard wired relationship to the world around us, which tends to be scanning for what isn't working, what is incomplete, what could go wrong, what do we have to brace ourselves for. And this is the mentality we can quite easily bring with us into our sleep, if we're not monitoring our mind.
You can even think about that for yourself, those moments where you do find yourself tossing and turning where the mind doesn't really want to turn off and it feels agitated. Most likely it's looking at your life and some of the problems that might be there, or some of the things that need to be fixed, or things from the day that are incomplete or didn't go well. It's more rare that we would be up because we're ruminating intensively about how grateful we are for life. That can certainly happen, and hopefully you've had some of those moments. But typically that gratitude does tend to shift us from a deficit-scarcity mentality to one of feeling full and abundant and whole and complete in this moment.
And while that can temporarily arouse some energy in the body because we're excited to be alive, usually it creates a calmness and a groundedness in our heart that can really serve us as we're transitioning into sleep. And so that's what we're going to explore here today. Power of gratitude to calm our mind, lighten our mind, fill our heart, so that we can transition into deep sleep. Thanks for being on this journey with me, and let's settle in for tonight's meditation.

Vidyamala’s tips on catching anger as it’s happening or about to happen are great - clear, practical, and doable.
- Vicoir
The little talks before the meditations are priceless. It's like I've found my peeps. The topics, the quotes, the goals—it all makes so much sense to me, things I want to be thinking and learning about. Most importantly, the meditations are kindness-centered, which I love. It feels like a new way to approach meditation.
- Lauren
Incredible, easy to navigate app. I would highly recommend this app to anyone who wishes to reduce stress and anxiety or simply as an aid to improve overall mental health.
- Kirtus
I love how the app gives me pointers to new things to explore.
- Lydia
So calm and soothing. I love the new bundle with Kelly Boys, she’s brilliant!
- EJ
Better than Headspace. I've had the paid version of both apps, and I must say I enjoy this one better.
