Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to talk about how to create positive change without hating yourself. There are a number of people who shame themselves into making personal changes - better eating, exercise, personal development. And to be honest, it can work sometimes. But in my experience, it's incomplete and at best leads to a superficial kind of self love, that is a self-love or appreciation that's contingent upon meeting your own self imposed standards or culturally imposed standards for who you should be.
But from the meditative perspective, the you that is most deep and most true is independent of what you do, how you look, how you behave. And so the journey of loving and accepting yourself can happen at any stage of your growth, even if you're unsatisfied with certain aspects of your life. But something special happens when we love ourselves on the deepest of levels. We become intrinsically motivated to take care of ourselves and make meaningful changes in our life. In fact, it's usually self hate that keeps us stuck in the toxic patterns that we most want to change in the first place.
Carl Rogers famously said, "It wasn't until I accepted myself just as I was in this moment that I was free to change." So the point is, yeah, aiming yourself into change. Ken work, there are endless examples of it, but loving yourself into change works too, and it's much more nourishing and sustainable. And if you find that your desire to change falls away after you start appreciating yourself, then maybe that change wasn't as important as you thought it was. Thank you for your practice. Let's settle into the meditation.

Vidyamala’s tips on catching anger as it’s happening or about to happen are great - clear, practical, and doable.
- Vicoir
The little talks before the meditations are priceless. It's like I've found my peeps. The topics, the quotes, the goals—it all makes so much sense to me, things I want to be thinking and learning about. Most importantly, the meditations are kindness-centered, which I love. It feels like a new way to approach meditation.
- Lauren
Incredible, easy to navigate app. I would highly recommend this app to anyone who wishes to reduce stress and anxiety or simply as an aid to improve overall mental health.
- Kirtus
I love how the app gives me pointers to new things to explore.
- Lydia
So calm and soothing. I love the new bundle with Kelly Boys, she’s brilliant!
- EJ
Better than Headspace. I've had the paid version of both apps, and I must say I enjoy this one better.
