Personalized support for learning how to integrate mindfulness into your life. Delivered fresh everyday by our world renowned experts.
Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to talk about letting go. One of the most common questions I get from people is, how do I let go? And while there are a number of different strategies that can facilitate the letting go process, it's important to remember that a mindfulness meditation practice is a practice of letting go. So if we think about it, very practically, let's imagine that we're focusing on our breath. What are we doing with that? Every time the mind wanders, gets caught up in a thought, we practice releasing our grip on that thought and coming back to the breath.
It might take a few seconds before the mind wanders off again. We really feel that urge to, to think about that thought, to get caught up in it, to ruminate about it. But our practice is noticing the thought, softening our grip around it, and then bringing the attention back here. This is a practice of letting go. It's the practice of feeling, the tension of holding on, wanting to follow something, wanting to stay with something.
And then the practice of releasing that grip, releasing that tension and returning our attention back to what is here right now. If you did nothing more than this practice over the course of your lifetime, you would develop a mind that is better at releasing its grip when it is holding onto something. So while there are many different strategies that can lead to letting go, that we talk about on the mindfulness.com app, the one thing that you can trust is a meditation practice. The key takeaway, a moment of mindfulness, not only leads to letting go. It is a moment of letting go.
Thank you for your practice and I'll talk to you soon in the meditation. Take care.
