Most of Our Problems Are Internal Ones

Personalized support for learning how to integrate mindfulness into your life. Delivered fresh everyday by our world renowned experts. Choose meditation duration:

Hi, and welcome to your Daily Mindfulness. Today, I'm going to offer you a short thought to ponder for the week ahead and we'll unpack it a little here. But the basic thought is, is that most of our problems are in their essence internal ones. So for instance, when we're mentally calm, present, and strong, we respond wisely. We don't react.

When someone lets us down, we assume good intentions, not harmful ones. We give them the benefit of the doubt. Now, when we're mentally strong, when someone speaks to us harshly, we don't lash back in anger. We try to speak kindly. We understand.

When someone's late or they're holding us up in traffic, when we're mentally strong, we wait patiently. When big challenges arise, we do the right thing, not the easy thing, regardless of what others think or say. When we're at our best mentally, everything tends to be seen from a higher perspective. We don't think, take things too personally. We extend an olive branch.

We lead with love and not fear. We don't tend to make mountains out of molehills. We just deal with things as they come moment by moment. And so when we're in a good mental space, many of the problems that we normally get caught up in, on a daily basis simply don't arise or they're dealt with in a really effective way. So cultivating mindfulness doesn't mean the absence of stress, difficulty or pain, but it does mean that we have the ability to cope with it all more effectively, more wisely, and gives us the capacity to find peace and contentment in the middle of it all.

So with all of that in mind, let's settle in for today's meditation. And as always, thank you for your practice and your presence here.
