Hi, and welcome to your Daily Mindfulness.
Today I'm going to talk about
mountains and molehills.
So of course, what I'm referring
to here is the old saying, "Don't
make mountains out of molehills."
What this saying is speaking to is the
tendency that we can sometimes have
to magnify our problems in the mind.
And it's interesting, isn't it?
Because as we move through life,
we probably all have met people who
seem to make a really big deal out
of things while other people are just
not really bothered by much at all,
nothing really ruffles their feathers.
One person might miss the train and
simply wait peacefully for the next one.
Whereas the next person become really
upset and angry in the same situation.
One person may ruminate about an
implied comment for days or weeks,
constantly speaking to others about
it, tossing and turning in the night.
Whereas another person may simply let
it go and not take it too personally.
The difference in these responses
reminds us that we do have a choice
not to let things get under our skin.
And this is really important because when
we react to all the inconveniences, the
mishaps, the incidents of daily life,
you know, the spilled food, that loud
noise, a computer glitch, if we react
to all of those, we constantly sprinkle
these feelings of frustration and stress
and negativity throughout our life.
But if we can learn to face life's little
irritations with patience and acceptance,
we greatly reduce our daily stress.
And we can cultivate this capacity through
mindfulness, which teaches us how to meet
the present moment just as it is, and to
wage peace with it, and then work with it.
And with practice over time, we build our
capacity to stay calm, non-reactive and
mentally strong for the bigger things,
like a loss, an illness, or a heartbreak.
So the invitation for today and ongoing
is the next time you have a lunch date
that doesn't show up, end up in a traffic
jam or your grocery bag breaks and
everything falls on the floor, see if
you can pause there just for a moment,
take a slow breath and remind yourself
that you do have a choice to meet that
moment with acceptance and patience.
And when you do that, you can let go
of making a mountain out of a molehill.
And therefore let go of all the
extra stress, suffering, and
struggle that usually gets layered
on top of an already tricky moment.
Wishing you really well
with this practice.
And as always, thank you for your
practice and your presence here with us.
And let's settle in now
for today's meditation.

Vidyamala’s tips on catching anger as it’s happening or about to happen are great - clear, practical, and doable.

The little talks before the meditations are priceless. It's like I've found my peeps. The topics, the quotes, the goals—it all makes so much sense to me, things I want to be thinking and learning about. Most importantly, the meditations are kindness-centered, which I love. It feels like a new way to approach meditation.
- Lauren
Incredible, easy to navigate app. I would highly recommend this app to anyone who wishes to reduce stress and anxiety or simply as an aid to improve overall mental health.

Better than Headspace. I've had the paid version of both apps, and I must say I enjoy this one better.
