Relating to Difficult Experiences

Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to talk about walking in the rain. So here's a quote that stood out to me by Roger Miller. He says, "Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet." Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet. So for me, this quote was an invitation to explore my relationship to difficult experiences.

And, and I noticed for myself sometimes when going through something unexpected that's painful, one pattern I have is to almost want to sulk, to, to have some time to feel bad for myself. Not necessarily in a good way where I'm just feeling the feeling, but my mind just wants to have a, a bit of a pity party for myself. And if I can get that from other people, I'll take it as well. And so there's definitely not a walking in the rain. It's more like getting wet and almost wanting someone to, to see how wet I'm getting and to commiserate with me.

And your relationship to the rain of life might be different. I'm actually not putting on a pedestal, any particular form of reacting to these moments. We all have our patterns and they can all service us in different ways. But one thing I'd love for you to explore as part of your mindfulness practice is in those moments, what would it look like to, to walk in the rain rather than just getting, wet. What is your usual relationship to those moments? And what might be a relationship to those moments that inspires you a little bit more, or feels like a growth edge or is something that is an expression of you that might feel different than your, your normal patterns, but is one that is more aligned with the person that you want to grow into? Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet.

Either way, we're getting wet, but there's different ways to relate to it. So hope this gives you something to think about. Thank you for your practice. Let's settle in for today's meditation.
