Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to reframe something about being present. Instead of trying to be present, my encouragement to you is to relax into being present. When we try to be present, we relate to it as something to do, and it tends to activate our striving, achieving mind. But when we relax into being present, we recognize it as something inherent to who we are, and it invites us to settle more deeply into the fullness of ourselves.

This is also the difference between, we could say, a personal growth orientation toward mindfulness, which uses these practice, practices to strengthen the sense of self and a spiritual orientation toward mindfulness, which uses these practices to expand one sense of self. Both can be useful. But when we relax into being present, we recognize that who we are is, is bigger than any thought moving through our mind or any experience that we could try to manufacture. We settle into the bigness of our awareness and that awareness is very different than the momentary experience moving through us. So presence is not something we try to do.

It's something we relax into. And there we find our bigness and our vastness. Thank you for your practice. Let's settle into today's meditation.
