Hi, and welcome to your Daily Mindfulness. So today I'm going to talk about remembering to be present, to be aware. So the Buddhist term that translates into English as the word mindfulness actually originates in the Pali term Sati. And the term Sati also means to remember. And to me, you know, this really speaks to what training in awareness is really like, because just like the sky is always there no matter what kind of weather, storms or clouds might pass through it, how true nature is always present.
Even though sometimes we might forget it, even though sometimes we might be distracted, caught up or feel really lost in the storms of life. So we practice mindfulness. To remind ourselves again and again, to be aware of true nature. And of course, there's this tendency to forget that this is what we're doing when we practice. So sometimes we might get caught up in thinking that meditation is all about getting ourselves into a certain state of mind where the mind is totally quiet, or maybe we're aiming to get into a state of bliss.
Or maybe we're waiting to have some kind of huge fireworks moment of insight or realization. Maybe we think mindfulness is about maybe like perfecting ourselves. And so we're not really there yet until we do. And so maybe we forget sometimes that actually the thing that we're looking for is already here. And there's nothing that we need to fix about ourselves to get it.
There's no special state we need to be into, uh, attain it or feel it. There's really nothing that we need to do at all except to remember that awareness is already here. Just to notice that. Just to be attentive to that and to kind of rest in that knowing. So there's really such a simplicity about this, but sometimes the mind over-complicates it.
So today in meditation and in daily life, as best you can, the invitation is to just rest into this remembrance. See if you can let go of the ideas that you have to get into a particular state, achieve a whole bunch more spiritual things or fix or change yourself and just keep the practice really simple and easy. Whenever you noticed you've lost touch with awareness, just remember it again. When you notice you're caught up in stress, struggles, just remember awareness again. So no matter how much the mind wanders, simply remembering awareness again and again and again.
So thank you for your practice and your presence here with us. And now just inviting you to settle in for today's meditation.

Vidyamala’s tips on catching anger as it’s happening or about to happen are great - clear, practical, and doable.
- Vicoir
The little talks before the meditations are priceless. It's like I've found my peeps. The topics, the quotes, the goals—it all makes so much sense to me, things I want to be thinking and learning about. Most importantly, the meditations are kindness-centered, which I love. It feels like a new way to approach meditation.
- Lauren
Incredible, easy to navigate app. I would highly recommend this app to anyone who wishes to reduce stress and anxiety or simply as an aid to improve overall mental health.
- Kirtus
I love how the app gives me pointers to new things to explore.
- Lydia
So calm and soothing. I love the new bundle with Kelly Boys, she’s brilliant!
- EJ
Better than Headspace. I've had the paid version of both apps, and I must say I enjoy this one better.
