The Beauty and Tragedy of Growth

Personalized support for learning how to integrate mindfulness into your life. Delivered fresh everyday by our world renowned experts. Choose meditation duration:

Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to talk about the process of growth. So there's something both tragic and beautiful about our growth process. The tragic side of it is that there is a version of ourselves that we are letting go of. This series of patterns, survival strategies, ways of relating to the world that don't necessarily need to die, but they're taking a back seat.

They're no longer being utilized and yeah, in some cases they can disappear entirely. And so there is a, there's a dying of sorts that, that is happening of a version of ourselves or at the very least a big transition. The beauty though is that there's also a, a birth. A new you is coming onto the scene, is taking a more prominent seat. A new way of relating to the world with fresh eyes, different resources.

And that can come with excitement and joy and enthusiasm. And I think it's important to acknowledge both of these sides when it comes to our growth journey because if we don't acknowledge that, it can be painful. We can feel like maybe we're doing something wrong, but this is the process of growing anything. Even you think of a garden. There's planting flowers, planting vegetables, and there's also pulling away the weeds.

Certain things need to shift in order for other things to be able to come in and to flourish. So sometimes if we focus a little too much on what we're letting go of, we can get stuck in this cycle of, are you sure that's okay. Is that okay? Are we ready to release? And it can be helpful to focus more on what are we bringing to life, what is getting developed and how our excitement for what it would be like to live a life that has more of that thing, or if that, that new you, that part of you that can relate to the world in a different way. So if you do find yourself stuck on maybe the, the tragic side of growth, see if you can orient a little more toward the beautiful side of it, what you're getting to grow, what is coming to life, and that can help with the process of that transition. Thank you for your practice.

Let's settle in for today's meditation.
