The Forgotten Truth of Growth

Personalized support for learning how to integrate mindfulness into your life. Delivered fresh everyday by our world renowned experts. Choose meditation duration:

Hi, welcome back to

your Daily Mindfulness.

In today's session, we're going

to talk about why you're perfectly

okay as you are, and you may

still need to make some changes.

As you hear it, that it might

sound like a bit of a contradiction

and that's because the process of

growth often holds contradictions.

In one sense, you're

okay exactly as you are.

There's a part of you that is

fundamentally whole and complete.

And in another sense, you may need

to make some changes in yourself

and how you interact with the world.

When we're born there's no idea

of anything that's wrong with us.

We're very much connected to our

essential okayness and there's

something pure and precious in that.

As we grow though and integrate with

the world, it's also important that we

adapt to certain societal expectations,

social norms for how to relate with one

another and to also develop new skills

that might not come naturally to us.

At our core, we're still whole.

We're still perfect, you could say.

But we also might not have the

slightest idea of how to hold a

conversation, be productive or

thrive in a romantic partnership.

I think it's important for us to hold

both of these realities on our journey

of growth, because when we lose touch

with our essential okayness, we can

get caught in this subconscious loop of

incessantly trying to get someplace else

in order to feel complete or fulfilled.

And when we lose touch with the reality

that we're in a human form, which

often involves needing to work on our

strengths and our weaknesses, well,

then we disconnect ourselves from

the realities of the relative world,

which can cause practical, daily,

disharmonies in different aspects of life.

So the takeaway you're okay.

And you may still want to change.

Thank you for your practice.

I'll talk to you in the

meditation and take care.
