The Journey of Happiness

Personalized support for learning how to integrate mindfulness into your life. Delivered fresh everyday by our world renowned experts. Choose meditation duration:

Hi, and welcome to your Daily Mindfulness.

In today's session we're

going to talk about happiness.

I believe your perspective on happiness

shifts when one of two things happens.

One, you realize you can change how

you feel without changing anything

around you or two, you try changing

everything around you, but it

still didn't change how you feel.

We can absolutely change our

internal experience by changing

our external experience.

Good relationships, a decluttered home,

and an equitable community can all play

an important role in our wellbeing.

Yet there tends to be an overemphasis

on the external as if this is

where we'll find our final refuge.

And it's not.

There's always something

more to do, somewhere else

to go, something yet to fix.

Do these things, but don't bank

on them for your ultimate freedom.

That's a different journey.

One that can happen in parallel, yes.

But requires a different orientation.

What, if you could feel deeply

fulfilled, compassionate,

expansive, and at ease while sitting

alone in a closet meditating?

What might that tell you about where

your fulfillment could come from?

What if you could have luxury opportunity,

choice, and justice, and still feel

internally agitated and unsafe?

What might that tell you about where

your fulfillment can or cannot come from?

These are both important paths,

the internal and the external.

So please don't get me wrong.

And they inform one another, but there's

nothing that can replace the freedom

found through the internal journey.

And of course the internal journey

does not have to be sitting

still in a closet meditating.

There are lots of different paths to take,

but since we are exploring meditation

here, hat's the one we'll go with for now.

So thank you for your practice, in the

external sense and the internal sense.

Let's settle in for today's meditation.
