Hey, welcome back to
your Daily Mindfulness.
In today's session, we're going
to talk about the value of tuning
into, and even appreciating,
the neutral moments of our life.
So one can argue that all experiences
fall into three general categories,
pleasant, unpleasant, and neutral.
We're often most sensitive to the
first two, pleasant and unpleasant.
Primarily because we're
evolutionarily wired to scan our
environment for the things we
want and the things we don't want.
But what about those neutral moments?
Chances are a great number of your
moments fall into this category.
They're not particularly pleasant,
not particularly unpleasant.
They just are.
Maybe you're having a
moment like that right now.
But what if you made the intention
to bring more mindfulness
into those neutral moments?
I think one of the things we often forget
about a neutral moment is that it's not
just neutral, but it also represents
the absence of all of the things that
we're often trying to push away from.
So there's something there that we
can actually appreciate and savor.
And instead of moving through those
moments quickly, looking for the next
great thing, what would it be like to
drop in to bring more presence there?
The interesting thing that happens is
once we do, those neutral moments, often
turn a little bit more pleasurable.
So as you go about your day today, see
what your relationship to neutrality is.
Does your mind sort of check out?
Are you looking for the
moment to be better?
Do you go on automatic pilot?
And instead, maybe you can
appreciate those neutral moments
as much as you might a good moment.
