Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to talk about the perplexing truth about humanity. There are many things that are interesting about how humans function. I don't need to look much further than my own human experience to be confused by it all. One thing that always stood out to me though, was what the Dalai Lama said when someone asked him what surprised him most about humanity.
His response was, "Man, because he sacrifices his health to make money, then sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present. The result being that he does not live in the present or the future. He lives as if he is never going to die and then dies having never really lived." Oy. That one hits hard.
Right? My hope in sharing quotes like this is not to make us all feel regret, but instead to inspire us to look at how we're navigating our life currently. And to see if there are any changes that would help us live this life more intentionally. Maybe this quote helps you feel like you're already aligned in your life, maybe it doesn't activate anything in you, or maybe it wakes you up to something that could shift what you prioritize. Whatever it is, I'm sending you a lot of love and empathy as we all navigate the complications of being human. Thank you for your practice.
