Hi, and welcome to your Daily Mindfulness. Today I'm going to talk about thinking outside the box. So sometimes in life we can feel a little bit stuck. Perhaps when we're facing a challenging situation and we just don't know which way to turn or what to do, or perhaps we feel stuck in our old conditioning and we just keep repeating the same patterns of thought and behavior. Or, we might find ourselves in something like a relationship that's not working or a dreary, unfulfilling job and we just might not be able to see other options or possibilities, or we can't find an empowering way forward.
So in these situations, if we can stay out of stress and rumination in these uncertain and challenging times and stay calm and clear headed, then we can start to approach our situation in new and innovative ways. In other words, we can start to think outside the box. So thinking outside the box means exactly that. It's being able to approach or think about problems in a way that you never thought of before. It's applying a mindset of possibility and creativity to whatever it is that you're facing, thinking about it from new angles and new perspectives.
So whereas normally we might have very boxed in thinking, that is, we just keep doing what we always do. We deal with things in the way we always do, or we think we have to or should deal with it. When we think how side of the box, we shake off all that old conditioning and we bring a fresh perspective and a curious open mind to the situation. So next time that you think there's no way out, just pause for a moment, take a deep breath and tune into that silence and stillness within, and then start to mentally sort of play with the challenge you're facing. Think about it creatively.
Try to do things like think about how other people might see the situation, how they might make their way through it. Ask yourself questions like, what would be the most empowering way through this? Or, what's something I haven't thought of yet? Or, what would I do here if I wasn't afraid at all? Or, you might kind of go, like, I wonder what would happen if I did this or looked at it this way? So in other words, just feel free to play around with it without feeling pressured to solve it in that moment. You might just discover a new, novel way forward and a sense of empowerment and mental clarity that you had within you all along. As always, thank you for your practice and your presence here with us. And let's settle in now for today's meditation.

Vidyamala’s tips on catching anger as it’s happening or about to happen are great - clear, practical, and doable.
- Vicoir
The little talks before the meditations are priceless. It's like I've found my peeps. The topics, the quotes, the goals—it all makes so much sense to me, things I want to be thinking and learning about. Most importantly, the meditations are kindness-centered, which I love. It feels like a new way to approach meditation.
- Lauren
Incredible, easy to navigate app. I would highly recommend this app to anyone who wishes to reduce stress and anxiety or simply as an aid to improve overall mental health.
- Kirtus
I love how the app gives me pointers to new things to explore.
- Lydia
So calm and soothing. I love the new bundle with Kelly Boys, she’s brilliant!
- EJ
Better than Headspace. I've had the paid version of both apps, and I must say I enjoy this one better.
