Hi, and welcome to your Daily Mindfulness. Today I'm going to talk about how we can turn our wounds into wisdom. Specifically, I'd like to talk about one of the most difficult emotions for us to work with, and that is shame. Shame is the feeling that you are unworthy, or there's something wrong, bad or deficient about you. Being caught in the grip of shame can leave us feeling broken and devoid of any confidence in ourselves.
And shame specifically, can be a really difficult emotion to work with because often when we're feeling shame, we end up feeling undeserving of love and compassion, undeserving of something better. So when people reach out to help, we often want to hide away. We don't want to face our loved ones. Anyone who's experienced deep shame knows how hard it is to be with, how hard it is to face. It's such an uncomfortable emotion that many of us very quickly get overwhelmed by it, or get caught up in struggling against it, trying to push it away or deny it.
Like all emotions though, shame can be our teacher if we learn to transform our relationship with it. So if we can let go of the struggle against shame and let go of the self judgment, then we can meet it with awareness and compassion, and we can begin to carefully tend to it, to soothe it, and listen to what it may have to teach or show us. So the next time you feel shame, you feel that feeling of not being enough, not being worthy, see if you can let go of the mental labels and stories and the judgments about it, and gently lean towards the feeling with curiosity and acceptance. And let your awareness around the shame with love and compassion. Let it teach you to love yourself without condition.
And when we let go of the self-judgment and respond to shame with love and warmth, we gradually start to see beyond our stories of deficiency or failure and recognize that we are whole and worthy just the way we are. And we also free up the mental space to see what our emotions can teach us about what we might like to change going forward. And in this way, instead of shame holding us back or debilitating us, we can learn from it and transform our wounds into wisdom. As always, thank you for your practice and your presence here with us. And let's settle in now for today's meditation.

Vidyamala’s tips on catching anger as it’s happening or about to happen are great - clear, practical, and doable.
- Vicoir
The little talks before the meditations are priceless. It's like I've found my peeps. The topics, the quotes, the goals—it all makes so much sense to me, things I want to be thinking and learning about. Most importantly, the meditations are kindness-centered, which I love. It feels like a new way to approach meditation.
- Lauren
Incredible, easy to navigate app. I would highly recommend this app to anyone who wishes to reduce stress and anxiety or simply as an aid to improve overall mental health.

So calm and soothing. I love the new bundle with Kelly Boys, she’s brilliant!
- EJ
Better than Headspace. I've had the paid version of both apps, and I must say I enjoy this one better.
