Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to talk about becoming the person who you are meant to be. Now, this is one of those common phrases we hear in the personal growth world that there's a person you're meant to be, it's all about figuring out what your passion is, who you're meant to become, and then aligning yourself with that. As if it's an easy thing to do. Well, I'll say two things.
One, I don't believe that's an easy process. And two, I think it can be a bit controversial and provocative to say that there is some version of yourself that you are meant to become, as if you've been given a certain destiny. But I want to play around with that actually being a perspective. And if it is true that there is a version of ourselves that we are meant to be, that version will only be discovered through our uncompromising commitment to listening for, and then surrendering to what feels most true in each moment, despite how uncomfortable it may be. So what I mean by that is that if we get good at listening to what's arising in our minds and our bodies, moment to moment to moment, we will have a sense of what feels true for us.
It could be in a relationship. There might be a sense of, oh, actually a lot of my mind is telling me I should be with this person because things are good for this reason and that reason, and they're the person that my parents might want me to be, we live in a good place. But there's a sense deep down that something's not right. You feel some fear or you just feel like the experience is only partially good. It's not filling you up in a really deep way.
Well, that is your inner compass. That place deeper within you is, is the only compass you really have. The rest are just thoughts and ideas that maybe we've been given from family, our culture, the media, that tell us the life that we're supposed to live. And it can be very compelling because that's what most of us have grown up listening to. However, it's not aligned with who we are on the deepest level.
And the only way for us to be in touch with who we are on the deepest level and to align with that is to really feel deeply what is emerging as true in this moment. And if that is our compass for the person we are meant to be, it does mean that we're going to have to let go of some of these other ideas of who we're supposed to be, whether those are ideas from our parents, from culture, from the media, and that can be hard. It can make us feel unsafe at times. It can make us question, is this the right decision? But we've all been in that place where we do make a decision that's not in alignment with ourselves and then months can go by, years can go by where we're kind of in the flow of it, but we feel deep down that maybe that wasn't it. We feel like we left a part of ourselves behind in that decision and in the process along the way.
So it's something that we just want to watch out for. And I have a ton of respect for the bigness of this journey. It is really hard to follow that inner voice within us. But when we do, life becomes so much more alive, so much more rich and so much more aligned with the sense of who we are on a deep level. And you could argue that may be, that is what our journey is on this planet, to listen for that and to be uncompromising in our commitment to aligning with that.
So I hope this is something you can integrate as you consider bringing more mindfulness, more awareness, more attunement into your life. As always, thank you for your practice. And let's settle in for today's meditation.

Vidyamala’s tips on catching anger as it’s happening or about to happen are great - clear, practical, and doable.
- Vicoir
The little talks before the meditations are priceless. It's like I've found my peeps. The topics, the quotes, the goals—it all makes so much sense to me, things I want to be thinking and learning about. Most importantly, the meditations are kindness-centered, which I love. It feels like a new way to approach meditation.
- Lauren
Incredible, easy to navigate app. I would highly recommend this app to anyone who wishes to reduce stress and anxiety or simply as an aid to improve overall mental health.
- Kirtus
I love how the app gives me pointers to new things to explore.

Better than Headspace. I've had the paid version of both apps, and I must say I enjoy this one better.
