Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to talk about the limitations of adopting and identity. Now, we all have different identities that we connect to in our life. This could be the identity of, of our race, our profession, identity of a parent, a child, or some sort of label that we put on ourselves that might reflect a certain role we play in the world or a certain feature of ourselves. But something interesting can happen when we get overly identified with an identity or take it as the wholeness of who we are.
We let it to define more aspects of ourselves than maybe the one aspect of ourselves that it was intended to identify. And the reality is there's, there's no single identity that could possibly capture the depth, the complexity and nuance of who you are. Your story, and, and these labels can be important, but who you are truly is way bigger than these ideas and these narratives. And so I think it's something important to consider as you think about the different identities you hold for yourself. How do they serve you? How do they maybe connect you to others or to different communities or to colleagues or to your family? And in that way, I think there can be something quite healing and empowering around owning a particular identity.
At the same time, where might holding onto this identity get in the way of a larger sense of who you are or who you want to connect to yourself as? When you sit in the stillness of your mind, close your eyes and you notice the thoughts moving through, you see that there's no label for what's arising. All of that is something that we, we layer on. And so it's something to continue to explore in your own life. What is it like to own a particular identity, to hold an identity, which does tend to be important in the relative world? And what does it look like to relate to yourself beyond that identity? Perhaps a more expansive, complex, nuanced version of yourself. All something to consider in your journey of mindfulness.
Thank you for your practice. Let's settle in for today's meditation.

Vidyamala’s tips on catching anger as it’s happening or about to happen are great - clear, practical, and doable.
- Vicoir
The little talks before the meditations are priceless. It's like I've found my peeps. The topics, the quotes, the goals—it all makes so much sense to me, things I want to be thinking and learning about. Most importantly, the meditations are kindness-centered, which I love. It feels like a new way to approach meditation.
- Lauren
Incredible, easy to navigate app. I would highly recommend this app to anyone who wishes to reduce stress and anxiety or simply as an aid to improve overall mental health.
- Kirtus
I love how the app gives me pointers to new things to explore.
- Lydia
So calm and soothing. I love the new bundle with Kelly Boys, she’s brilliant!
- EJ
Better than Headspace. I've had the paid version of both apps, and I must say I enjoy this one better.
