You Might Just Need a Break

Personalized support for learning how to integrate mindfulness into your life. Delivered fresh everyday by our world renowned experts. Choose meditation duration:

Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to talk about why you may just need a break. I often see a lot of people jump to a conclusion that they're experiencing anxiety or depression. They're going through something and it feels off and immediately they put a label on their experience. Now I don't have anything against that.

I think there are times where it's important to give ourselves a certain diagnosis because then it allows us to work with it more honestly. And say, all right, how do I want to relate to this experience? But my invitation to you here is, before diagnosing yourself with something like anxiety or depression, check to see if you just need a break from the intensity of your life. When we're overwhelmed for prolonged periods of time, we can get stuck in a fight, flight, freeze or fawn response. And this causes us to feel like something is wrong and our internal experience becomes one of tension, of stress, of dis-ease. But you may just need a break, just like any other human would if they were in your shoes.

So before jumping to any conclusions that there's something wrong with you or something that needs to be fixed, just check to see, how is your life unfolding right now? What is going on around you? And maybe you could just take some time away from that. Take a break, allow yourself to recharge, reconnect to yourself and come back refreshed. Something to think about. Thank you for your practice. Let's settle in for today's meditation.
