Your True Nature

Personalized support for learning how to integrate mindfulness into your life. Delivered fresh everyday by our world renowned experts. Choose meditation duration:

Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session we're going to talk about your big work in the world. One of the most important things I think we must do in this human life is learn to connect to our true nature. Now that can mean different things in a meditation context. On one level, it could mean connecting to awareness, a sense of our higher self, who we are beyond our thoughts, our emotions.

I actually mean it differently here. When I say your true nature. I mean, the part of you that you've known from a very early age. The part of you that tends to express itself in your patterns that you've known since you were young. You know, are you someone who likes to stay in versus going out? Do you prefer to have a lot of friends or a few deep connections? Do you identify as someone who likes to write or to speak or someone who likes working with their hands? You know, we're, we tend to accumulate a lot of ideas through a childhood, family, friends, culture about who we are, what we should be, what's good for us.

And I think there's a big unlearning that has to happen as we enter into adulthood, where we really give ourselves permission to get in touch with the the truth that's been there all along. These aspects of our personality and who we are that we've always sensed were true, but we've sort of dismissed or tucked away because maybe they weren't as praised by other people. Or in some cases they were condemned by other people or family or people who were supposed to love us. And so we learn all these things over the course of our lifetime about who we need to be, what we need to do in order to be safe and be accepted. But as you enter into adulthood and you enter into your, your sovereignty as a human being, a big part of that process is to really get clear on, who am I on the deepest level? What is my true nature? What do I actually enjoy? What are my needs? What are my desires? What are my loves, my passions.

And can you give yourself the, give yourself the permission to inhabit your uniqueness. That is how we really come in alignment with ourselves. And there's a totally different freedom that we get to experience when we give ourselves that permission. So hope this gives you something to think about as you continue your meditation path. Meditation does support this practice.

It allows us to notice all the thoughts that we have about who we should be, and then a deeper sense of who we are. So you can use your practices to support this inquiry. Thank you for your practice. Let's settle in for today's meditation.
