Your Unique Genius

Personalized support for learning how to integrate mindfulness into your life. Delivered fresh everyday by our world renowned experts. Choose meditation duration:

Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to talk about your unique genius. I'd like to share an Albert Einstein quote. He says, "Everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." Notice how that one lands for you. This quote brings up a lot of different thoughts and feelings for me.

A lot of which is related to maybe the traditional education system, we could say. I think so much of how we perceive our intelligence, our strengths, our weaknesses comes from the early years of our education. And well, I think most of us can definitely remember a teacher or teachers who had a powerful impact on our sense of self, confidence and empowerment. I think also, overall, a lot of the traditional education system can perhaps unintentionally limit our ability to explore and nurture our strengths, our unique genius. I know many people who are now deeply fulfilled and successful in a traditional sense who while in school felt inadequate and unintelligent.

And it was primarily because they were being assessed through predetermined standards of what skills or benchmarks a person should know or develop or reach that weren't connected to what their unique genius was. They were being judged for their ability to climb a tree when their strength was swimming in the ocean. So my hope is that you can use this quote to challenge some of the ideas you might have about why you're not good enough or smart enough or capable enough, if that's a story you hold to some degree. And instead become curious about the environment you would thrive, in that would leverage your unique genius. We all have our own strengths and it's a life's work to uncover what those are.

Thank you for your practice. Let's settle in for today's meditation.
