Your Worst Traits Are Your Best

Personalized support for learning how to integrate mindfulness into your life. Delivered fresh everyday by our world renowned experts. Choose meditation duration:

Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to talk about why you're worst traits may be your best. So, when you're at your worst, how might people describe you? Obsessive. Bold. Scattered.

Just take a moment to see what comes up for you. Once you have something, even if it's just one or two, I want you to explore what the positive opposites of these descriptions could be. For instance, let's say you said obsessive. Someone might describe that as your worst trait. Maybe mine.

But the positive opposite of that might be passionate. Someone might say you're bold. The positive opposite of that could be confident. Someone might say you're scattered, but the positive opposite of that could be creative. So take a moment to think about what the positive opposite of your description could be.

This can sometimes take time to figure out, but chances are when you're at your best, you're embodying the positive opposites of the negative attributes people would assign to you at your worst. I think this is important to take into consideration when we're moving toward greater wholeness and integration. There are parts of us that we tend to shun or suppress. But those parts or where they're coming from are also leading to the aspects of us that we most love and appreciate, and that others love and appreciate. So before dismissing these parts of you, ask yourself what are the positive opposites and see if you can embody the positive side, rather than, let's say, the negative side.

Both might be important at different times, but in general, the positive opposite tends to serve us best over time. Try this out. Thank you for your practice. And we'll talk to you in the meditation. Take care.
