5-Sense Grounding Technique

A grounding technique to use when you feel overwhelmed.

Often when we're overwhelmed

or stressed, it's because we're

caught up in the thoughts, ideas,

judgments moving through our mind.

They're triggering our emotions and

keeping us in this thought-emotion loop.

One of the ways we can step out of that,

or at least reduce the intensity of it is

by connecting to our sensory experience,

which is independent of thought.

This is where five sense

grounding comes in.

All you do is notice something

with each of your senses.

What can I see right now?

What can I hear right now?

What can I feel right now?

What can I smell five sense grounding now?

And what can I taste right now?

You can take a few moments

with each of these senses.

And what you should notice is that

the story in your mind, all of those

thoughts, start to soften as you connect

to the direct experience of this moment.
