"Rainbow Walk" Grounding Technique

A grounding technique to use when you're lost in thoughts.

The rainbow walk is a grounding technique that you can use when you're caught in a trauma response, or just find yourself overwhelmed. What it involves is going for a walk, although you could do this sitting still, and just finding something in your environment that is a color of the rainbow. Something that is red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. By bringing your attention to the sensory experience of seeing and actively looking for something within certain categories, you're taking your mind off of the thoughts and triggers that are currently there and into something outside of you, which at the very least helps you reconnect to what is actually here right now, rather than be caught in all of the difficult thoughts that can create a lot of emotional charge. This is the rainbow walk.

Have some fun trying it out. Thanks for your practice and take care.
