"Scrollercoaster" Phone Technique

A practice to be more mindful with technology.

The scrollercoaster practice is a phone meditation I created in relationship to my own phone. The name comes from the acknowledgement that oftentimes we take out our phone aimlessly, start scrolling through social media, seeing all of these different posts that activate different emotions, positive, negative, happy, joyful, sad, depressed. And there we get caught on the rollercoaster of emotion. Hence, the term scrollercoaster. So what this practice involves is actually letting yourself go on the roller coaster of scrolling, but doing it with mindful awareness.

Taking a few minutes to intentionally open your phone, go through social media, but pay attention to what happens in your body and your mind as you do. What does your mind start thinking about? What do you start feeling? Navigate that with mindful awareness. What this will do is highlight how much of these devices actually are controlling how we feel and help you be more grounded while you're in relationship to them.
