"Stop, Drop, & Be" Phone Technique

A technique to not be enslaved to your phone.

Stop drop and be is a simple mindfulness technique you can use in relationship to your phone. In fact, it emerged out of my own complicated relationship to my phone, where I would find myself waiting in line at a coffee shop or in the grocery store and it would be the first thing I would reach to. In those moments, what I practice doing would be stopping in my tracks, noticing, oh, I'm reaching for my phone to grab it, dropping my phone back in my pocket, and just being. Stop drop and be. It's very simple, but it's often these simple reminders that we need to help us bring the practice of mindfulness into our life.

So next time you're in a situation where you want to maybe cover up the feeling of waiting or boredom or feeling like, oh, I need to do something because everyone else is doing something, maybe challenge that. Stop, drop, be. Use it as an opportunity for another mindful moment. Thank you for your practice and take care.
