A Different Kind of Peace

In this meditation, we explore how to meet the moment as it is, settling and relaxing into it.

So let's begin our meditation by settling into a comfortable posture. As always, this can be sitting, standing, or lying down. If it feels okay for you today, you can close your eyes. And we'll take a deep breath together to settle in. Breathing in through the nose.

And slowly out through the mouth. Inviting the jaw to soften. Letting the shoulders be at ease. The belly. And any other part of the body that may be holding some tension today.

Remember we can't force ourselves to relax. The best we can do is make an invitation or create the conditions, but the mind and the body have to follow at their own pace. So all of this is done with a gentle, spacious inviting tone. And if there's still tension, we just say to the body, it's okay. Whenever you're ready.

The theme of today's meditation is about surrendering to what is here, now. So as you've developed some presence and you're a bit more attuned to your life in this moment, notice what is here now. Are here are a lot of thoughts? Different painful or pleasant sensations in the body> or sounds around you? Fears? And instead of trying to change your experience by manipulating some of these elements, we'll see if we can change our experience by changing our relationship to the experience. And so whatever has arisen, can we relax a little more deeply into it? One of the quickest ways to do that is just through the body. Noticing where there might be some tension and resistance to what might be here.

And letting the body settle as much as it's willing. And you can even say in your own awareness: this moment, it's like this. This moment, it's like this. Nothing you need to fix. Just meeting your life right now with soft open receptivity.

This moment, it's like this. So as we begin to transition, let's take one more deep breath together. In through the nose. And slowly out through the mouth. And when you're ready, you can invite your eyes to open again.

Great job. So this surrendering to what is, is potentially one of the deepest practices we can do. That's one of the hardest ones. We constantly want to control and have everything figured out, but there's no real lasting peace that can come from that because life is subject to change. So today, as you're going about your various experiences, periodically see if you can drop this little mantra: in this moment, it's like this.

And hopefully that will allow you to meet this moment a little more fully, thus, enabling you to respond a little bit more purposefully. Thank you for your practice. I'll talk to you soon. Until next time, take care.
