Your Life as a Hero(ine)'s Journey

In this meditation, we practice viewing our present moment as part of a much larger story that has yet to be written.

Let's start by settling into a comfortable posture. This could be sitting down, lying down or standing. If it feels okay to do so, you can close your eyes. And we'll take a deep breath together to settle in. In through the nose.

And slowly out through the mouth. Inviting the jaw to relax. Letting the shoulders be at ease. As well as the hands and the belly. As your body settles in, you can let your breath come back to its natural rhythm.

And see if you can feel yourself settling in a little more deeply to this moment. And let's take a few moments to settle our attention. You can bring your awareness to your breath. Just following the rhythm of the inhale and the exhale. Very simply when the mind wanders, bringing it back to this breath.

In today's meditation we're going to contemplate our life as a hero or heroine's journey. In this journey. There are inevitable highs and lows, but there is always a time of pain and despair and uncertainty before a moment of transformation and growth. So take some time to imagine your life on that journey as a story yet to be fully written. Where have you been up until this point? And where are you now in your journey? If the journey were to continue along the story arc, as if someone had written this for you and it's soon to play out in a positive way, what do you imagine might come next? Once you have a sense of this, then ask how is what you're currently experiencing setting you up for the next stage.

As we come to the end of our meditation, let's take one more deep breath together. In through the nose. And slowly out with the mouth. And when you're ready, you can allow your eyes to open again. Great job today.

Imagining our life in the structure of a hero / heroine's journey allows us to see that the story isn't over yet and it helps give new purpose and meaning to whatever it is we might be going through. So hopefully you found this meditation useful. As you go about your day today, see if you can keep this in mind, especially as you endure some of those difficult moments. You're doing great. Thank you for your practice.

And until we talk again, take care.
